International SPatial LITeracy (SPLIT) Remote Sensing for Land Ecosystems and Natural Hazards

Location: Prague, Czech Republic Date: June 11-16, 2018 The event has been completed!

Hands-on Workshops as An Effective Means of Learning

After Split (2014), Thessaloniki (2015), Chania (2016), and Dubrovnik (2017), SPLITRS 2018 is taking us to Prague, Czech Republic. Once again, an intensive learning remote sensing program for professionals and graduate students will be offered at a great location, “a land of great natural beauty and astounding cultural heritage”. Since 1992, the extensive historic centre of Prague has been included in the UNESCO list of World Heritage Sites.

The event has been completed. SPLIT RS 2018 was attended by early career professionals and students from  Germany, Italy, Estonia, Ireland, Sudan, Croatia, UK, Portugal, China, USA, Netherlands, Denmark, and Czech Republic.

SPLITRS 2018 in Prague, Czech Republic

Karlstejn Castle !

This intensive and advanced, 6-day learning event, presents best insights into most recent techniques learned from top international professors and researchers through hands-on sessions and lectures. Participants will learn about different remote sensing applications using UAS (drone), LiDAR sensors, SAR, and various RS software. Learning about information extraction techniques will be an integral part of the school program in 2018.

The program will not demand prior comprehensive knowledge of remote sensing, but basic understanding is recommended. Participants are expected to follow the program throughout the six days and they will receive a certificate of attendance specifying each of the lectures followed.

SPLITRS is a non-profit school.

  • Flying UAV and data processing

  • LiDAR processing with examples of different projects

  • Remote sensing in geo-hazard assessment

Set like a jewel in the very heart of Europe, Prague throughout its long history has played a significant role in continental politics and culture. Now firmly ranked among the most visited European destinations, Prague’s old town has been accredited as a UNESCO World Heritage Site. The Charles Bridge, built in the 14th century at the direction of King Charles IV who is said to have laid the first stone himself, leads you to Prague Castle, Wenceslas Square and the Astronomical Clock. Beyond the main sights, there are endless opportunities for diversion in Prague, from brewery tours to river cruises, but often the most memorable time is that spent just sitting at a shaded cafe, drinking in the atmosphere of this unique and beautiful city.

….and much more

Field Trip Karlstejn Castle and Koneprusy Caves

Karlstejn Castle is a large Gothic castle founded 1348 CE by Charles IV, Holy Roman Emperor-elect and King of Bohemia. The castle served as a place for safekeeping the Imperial Regalia as well as the Bohemian/Czech crown jewels, holy relics, and other royal treasures. Located about 30 kilometres (19 mi) southwest of Prague above the village of the same name, it is one of the most famous and most frequently visited castles in the Czech Republic.

Karlstejn is within the Protected Landscape Area Czech Karst. We will also visit Koneprusy Caves
